Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Modern life can take its toll on your skin, as can growing older. It hardly seems fair that from our 20’s onwards, our natural stores of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid all start to deplete, which can leave your skin looking dull, loose, and prone to lines, wrinkles, dehydration and sun damage. In fact, it’s estimated that by the time you reach 50, your skin will contain half of the collagen it did when you were 25.

Laser skin rejuvenation using the Gentle Max Pro laser is a popular and effective treatment option that stimulates collagen production to help address a wide range of issues caused by skin ageing. Several of the Gentle Max Pro applicators, including the ND:Yag and Alex lasers, are suitable for skin rejuvenation treatments and give us the flexibility to address several concerns during a single course of treatment so that you get a bespoke solution for your skin.

How does Skin Rejuvenation work?

During a laser treatment for skin rejuvenation, we direct pulses of light energy into your skin. This energy converts to heat, which injures or breaks down already damaged cells, while leaving neighbouring, healthy cells unharmed.

Your body responds to this heat damage by triggering its own healing response, producing fresh collagen and elastin to ‘heal’ the area. Over time, this helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve areas of pigmentation, lift and tighten the skin, and boost hydration.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual case. When you come in for your initial consultation, we’ll be able to give you a much better idea of what to expect. Typically, laser skin rejuvenation treatments require six to eight sessions spaced approximately two weeks apart with a top-up session every six months to maintain the results.

Is there anything I should do after the treatment?

There’s no downtime after a laser treatment. We recommend that you wear a high factor sunscreen (SPF 30+) to help protect your skin from unwanted pigment changes.

Chemical Peels

If your skin is looking tired, dull, sun-damaged and generally in need of a gentle boost to help it look fresh and revived, then you might want to consider an I PEEL chemical peel – also known as skin peel – from the I IMAGE Skincare range at Mi:Skin Laser Clinic.

We use I IMAGE Skincare chemical peels because, as well as offering superficial to medium depth peels that provide fantastic results with minimal peeling, each product is targeted at specific skin concerns so that you can have a treatment that is exactly right for your skin. You can expect:

  • A gentle peel targeted to your individual needs
  • Effective, noticeable results
  • Improve your skin tone & texture
  • Reduce fine lines, wrinkles & areas of pigmentation
  • Can be used with the I ENHANCE range for longer-lasting results

The key benefits of chemical peels.

Although there are many skincare products on the market aimed at rejuvenating and refreshing your skin, chemical peels have a number of important benefits:

  • The ideal formulation for your skin type and/or concerns
  • Non-invasive
  • Gently remove skin imperfections and stimulate skin cell renewal
  • Noticeable results that can be enhanced by your at-home skincare regime
  • Low risk and minimal side effects
This treatment is ideal for active acne, acne scars, Rosacea, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun spots and skin cell renewal.
How do chemical peels work?

As the name would suggest, with a chemical peel we apply a special formulation that includes a chemical such as glycolic acid to your skin. This solution gently exfoliates and removes the damaged surface layers of skin to reveal the new and healthy cells underneath. As a result, chemical peels can reduce areas of hyperpigmentation, redness associated with rosacea, acne, fine lines and wrinkles, and other skin issues, leaving your skin looking refreshed and radiant.

Different strength skin peels are available. Superficial peels concentrate on the outer layers of the skin and cause minimal peeling, whereas medium peels penetrate deeper within the dermis and may cause more peeling. Deep peels cause severe peeling and some downtime. Here at Mi:Skin Laser Clinic, we offer superficial to medium depth peels from I IMAGE Skincare’s I PEEL range.

Why should I choose a professional strength chemical peel?

Some skin peels should only be administered by a suitably trained aesthetic practitioner. This is because the chemicals in these peels are strong enough to cause skin damage if not applied correctly. By having a professional-strength skin peel, you can benefit from being given the right treatment for your individual skin concerns and receive targeted advice about enhancing the results with your at-home skincare routine.

How many chemical peels will I need?

You may only need a single peel for your skin to look noticeably improved. Many people choose to have a fresh peel each time they feel their skin needs a boost. If you choose to have a superficial peel, we may recommend a course of three to five peels to give you the best results.

How long will the results last?

The results of your treatment will depend on the depth of the peel. You should experience the benefits of a superficial peel for between one and two months; the results of medium peels typically last for longer, but may require several days’ downtime post-treatment if you feel self-conscious about peeling.

Are chemical peels safe?

Dermatologists have been performing chemical peels for more than 50 years, although the use of certain food acids for peeling purposes dates back to the Ancient Egyptians. Due to the prevalence of skin peels, they are supported by extensive research and an excellent safety record.

Although superficial to medium peels are well tolerated by all skin types, it is important to seek treatment from an experienced aesthetic professional who can identify the best peel for you.

Do chemical peels have side-effects?

Superficial peels

If you have a superficial skin peel, you will probably feel a mild stinging sensation when the peel is applied and your face may look slightly pink after the solution is removed. It’s common for your face to take on a blotchy appearance, which will self-correct within a couple of hours. Some people experience mild peeling while others see no peeling at all.

Occasionally, people experience hyperpigmentation as the result of a superficial peel, although you can help to protect against this by wearing a high factor sunscreen after your treatment. In rare cases, people have reported skin infections or an outbreak of cold sores – if you’re a cold sore sufferer, do let us know in advance.

Medium depth peels

With slightly stronger, medium depth peels you may experience some redness, as well as a burning and stinging sensation for 30 minutes to an hour post-treatment.
Over the next few days, your face may turn darker brown in colour with streaks of white appearing amongst the brown. Your skin will then start to peel, lasting over a five- to six-day period, during which time it may feel quite itchy. After the peeling, your skin may initially look quite red but gradually fade to a fresh pink tone.

Apply a high factor sunscreen to protect against brown spots of hyperpigmentation. In very rare cases – usually at the hands of an inexperienced practitioner – scarring has been reported but is extremely unlikely in the right hands.

Is there anything I should do after the treatment?

We will give you detailed aftercare instructions following a chemical peel, depending on the type of peel you choose. With all peels, remember to wear a high factor sunscreen to protect your newly exposed skin from sun damage.

Thread Vein Removal

Although thread veins on the face, body and legs are incredibly common, we understand that they can be embarrassing and you may dislike their appearance to the point that you would like them removed.

Although there are a number of treatment options for thread vein removal, one of the most effective and lasting options is laser treatment. Here at the Mi:Skin Laser Clinic we use the Gentle Max Pro laser because we feel it gives the best outcomes.

  • Cutting-edge treatment option for thread veins on the face and body
  • Comfortable treatment
  • Fast & effective
  • No anaesthetic required
  • No downtime & proven safety record

Laser therapy is proven to be a highly effective way of improving the appearance of thread veins or even destroying them altogether. The treatment is non-invasive, has an excellent safety record, and requires no downtime.

The key benefits of laser thread vein treatments when compared to other treatment options include:

  • Virtually pain-free
  • Non-surgical
  • Minimal risk of side effects
  • Safe, comfortable and fast
  • Long-lasting results
  • No downtime
What are thread veins?

Thread veins – also referred to as telangiectasia, spider veins or broken veins – are tiny blood vessels that run close to the surface of your skin. Despite the name ‘broken veins’, they are, in fact, not broken but enlarged, which is what makes them visible. Thread veins are typically red or purple in colour and look like a network of small, wiggly lines. They usually appear on the cheeks, nose, and legs.

What causes thread veins?

Despite affecting one in five of us in our 20s, 50% of us in our 40s, and over 70% of the age 70-plus population, we still aren’t 100% sure what causes thread veins. They are believed to be linked to changes in temperature, hormonal changes, smoking, alcohol consumption, genetics, and prolonged standing.

It’s also thought that thread veins become more prominent as we get older because our skin and blood cells lose their elasticity and are more vulnerable to becoming enlarged.

How does laser thread vein removal work?

The Nd:YAG applicator for the Gentle Max Pro laser emits light energy into the targeted thread veins, which converts to heat that destroys the walls of the veins without affecting the healthy surrounding cells. This causes the thread veins to collapse and breakdown until they are harmlessly absorbed by your body. With the Nd:YAG applicator, we have full control over the pulse intensity and duration of the laser to ensure that we only heat the damaged areas.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual case and the extent of your thread veins. Typically, we recommend six to eight treatment sessions, each of which will take 30 to 45 minutes.

Can you remove varicose veins using laser therapy?

Larger thread veins and varicose veins typically need a different treatment method, such as sclerotherapy. Laser treatment is unlikely to be suitable in veins above a certain size. We would recommend that you visit us for an initial consultation so that we can give you the right advice and recommendations for your individual case.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience a mild stinging sensation during the procedure – most people describe it as feeling like the snapping of a rubber band against the skin – and the treatment area may feel hot for 15 minutes or so post-treatment. You may also find that skin looks slightly red for an hour or so.

Is laser thread vein removal safe?

Laser treatments using an ND:yag laser have an excellent safety record and are considered to be low risk, especially in the hands of an experienced laser practitioner.

Is there anything I should do after treatment?

There’s no downtime after a laser treatment. We recommend that you wear a high factor sunscreen (SPF 30+) to help protect your skin from unwanted pigment changes.

Nail Fungus Treatment

If you have nail fungus, your doctor may have already told you that it’s a common condition that affects approximately 10% of adults. It typically begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of a nail and, as the fungal infection deepens, you may notice your nails becoming thicker, misshapen, discoloured or even crumbling at the edges. Fungal nail infections can affect your fingernails or toenails and spread to several nails.

Although nail fungus infections can be mild and painless, they can also cause a great deal of discomfort and make you feel self-conscious about the appearance of your nails. A wide range of treatment options are available, from oral antifungal drugs and medical creams to nail removal.

Here at the Mi:SkinLaser Clinic, we can help to successfully treat your fungal nail infection using laser technology and this treatment is ideal for both men and women, nail fungal infections, toenails and fingernails.

What causes nail fungus infections?

Approximately half of all nail fungus infections are caused by Onychomycosis.
We each naturally have certain fungi in our bodies but, in a warm, moist environment such as the inside of your shoes, these fungi can overpopulate, leading to an infection. Fungal infections can also be spread from person to person.

How does laser nail fungus treatment work?

To treat a fungal nail infection, we would use the Nd:YAG applicator for the Gentle Max Pro laser. This emits light with a wavelength of 1064nm, which penetrates deep into the infected tissues to heat and destroy them without affecting the healthy surrounding cells. With the Nd:YAG applicator, we have full control over the pulse intensity and duration of the laser to ensure that we only heat the damaged areas.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual case and the extent of your fungal nail infection. Typically, we recommend four treatment sessions spaced approximately 14 days apart for the best results.

Do laser nail fungus treatments work?

Laser treatments for nail fungus are relatively new when compared to traditional treatment methods such as medical creams and oral antifungal medication.

Here at the Mi:Ski. Laser Clinic, we stand by our experience of treating nail fungus with the Gentle Max pro laser as we have helped a significant number of patients rid their nails of infection over the years.

Is laser nail fungus treatment safe?

Laser treatments using an Nd:YAG laser have an excellent safety record and are low risk for the treatment of nail fungus.

Is there anything I should do after the treatment?

There’s no downtime with laser treatments for nail fungus, so you can get back to everyday life after each appointment. You can even wear nail varnish immediately after the procedure, although we will request that you remove any nail products 24 hours before each treatment.
Side effects from laser nail fungus treatments are rare but if you notice any signs of infection, blistering or pigment changes, let us know immediately.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal offers a lasting way to get rid of unwanted facial or body hair, and has many benefits over temporary methods such as waxing, shaving, epilation and depilatory creams, which can be messy, time consuming and, too often, painful and is ideal for both men and women, unwanted facial hair, unwanted body hair, Bikini line as well as excess hair caused by polycystic ovary syndrome.

Having worked with many lasers over the years, we have opted to use Gentle Max Pro for laser hair removal at the Mi: Skin Laser Clinic. This is because Gentle Max Pro gives you:

  • Long-lasting hair removal
  • Comfortable treatment
  • Quicker treatment times
  • Visible results in fewer sessions
  • Suitable for all skin types
How does laser hair removal work?

The Gentle Max Pro laser works by directing the energy from a near infra-red light through the hairs you want removed to the hair follicle beneath your skin’s surface. The heat from the laser damages the follicle without hurting the surrounding skin cells. This damage stops the follicle from growing new hair and causes the existing hair to fall out.

Because each hair on your body grows in a cycle made up of three phases, it’s important that we carry out a series of treatments to treat as many hair follicles in their active (anagen) growth phase as possible. You may notice some hair growth from the follicles that were dormant during your treatment, but this should be a lot sparser than in the past.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Hair follicles have incredible regenerative abilities, so you may experience some regrowth in the future. However, treatment with the Gentle Max Pro laser is recognised to lead to a permanent reduction in hair growth after each treatment. Most people find they need an occasional top-up treatment to tackle any hairs that do come back.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual case. In most cases, six to eight treatment sessions approximately four to six weeks apart are ideal. If you’re thinking about going hair-free for the summer, late autumn/early winter is the perfect time to schedule a course of treatment.

Does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal with the Gentle Max Pro laser is surprisingly comfortable and you shouldn’t need any anaesthetic for your treatment.

The laser features an innovative cooling tip that keeps the surface of your skin cool, while still allowing the laser energy to be transferred to your targeted hair follicles.

Does Gentle Max Pro work on tanned or dark skin tones?

Yes, Gentle Max Pro’s laser is FDA-approved for use on all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI) as well as tanned skin. It is also possible to use the ND:yag and Alexandrite options if we feel these would be more suitable for your skin.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Laser hair removal has an excellent safety record. That being said, as with any cosmetic treatment – whether surgical or non-surgical – it’s important that you choose a practitioner with suitable training and experience as this will help to minimise the risk of side effects.

What are the potential side effects of the treatment?

The most common side effect following laser hair removal treatment is for your skin to look slightly pink and to feel like you have mild sunburn. This reaction usually disappears within 24 to 48 hours.

Is there anything I should do after the treatment?

There’s no downtime with laser hair removal, so you can get back to your usual activities after each appointment. We recommend that you wear a high factor sunscreen (SPF 30+) after your treatment to prevent hyperpigmentation.

SkinPen Micro Needling

Human skin is astoundingly good at resisting the effects of sunburn, aging and injuries. Our skin even puts up a fair bit of resistance against the continuous use of poor skin care products, but eventually, all of these will have their way and leave our skin with unsightly marks, scars and wrinkles.

Fortunately, at the Mi:Skin Laser Clinic in Aylesbury, we have an effective answer to this: SkinPen Treatment. SkinPen micro-needling treatment helps restore confidence and flawless skin by tackling the adverse effects of aging, sunburn and injuries.

It works through the application of very tiny needles that stimulate the skin to produce elastin and other natural proteins that are responsible for keeping skin supple and firm. As well as the extensive body area, SkinPen treatment is effective at treating an assortment of skin issues that affect even sensitive areas like the face and neck.

At Mi:Skin Laser in Aylesbury, we have successfully incorporated the latest technology in SkinPen micro-needling treatment to deal with a range of dermatological problems. This includes indications of aging and fatigue. Though aging is a natural process, its emergence can be delayed by using this treatment. SkinPen is also exceptionally effective in impairing the effects of scarring caused by serious injuries.

Other benefits of the treatment include a decrease in the production of melanin, which causes hyperpigmentation, and enhanced healing from sunburn. Best of all SkinPen treatment is harmless and very efficient in handling the sensitive sections of our skin.

What to expect from SkinPen micro needling treatment

SkinPen results show up instantly after undergoing the treatment. The outcome will also keep improving over time, which means one treatment is usually enough. However, better and longer-lasting results can be had with the recommended four to six sessions.

How it works?

As the micro SkinPen needles penetrate your skin, they cause microscopic depressions. This means that you will hardly feel any pain as the needles puncture through the skin’s surface. In the process, the production of amino acids that repair your skin is stimulated and released.

Because of its gentleness and simplicity, recovery is quick and visual signs of healthier, stronger and vibrant skin quickly noticeable. In addition to impairing the effects of aging and injuries, your skin gets a better shade and becomes smoother.

What is the procedure?

Like any other form of treatment, we first identify the area that needs to be treated. Once done, the SkinPen is then moved over your skin many times. As mentioned earlier, it uses twelve fine needles that quickly vibrate sliding through the skin.

This produces a tingling effect which most people barely notice as the needles penetrate your skin’s subcutaneous layer. The average session lasts just 45 minutes and downtime is minimal.

Are there any side effects?

The SkinPen treatment causes little distress. For minor treatments, you are likely to feel a tingling sensation while for more extensive treatments where the needles need to penetrate a little deeper, an anaesthetic agent is administered.

Because of the natural proteins which are being produced, you are not likely to experience any serious after-effects. However, you may see some redness in the pierced area after treatment, but this should fade away within a couple of hours.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It’s also called microplaning or blading.

Dermaplaning aims to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. This treatment claims to remove deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks on your skin. It’s also used to remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face known as Velus hair.

Dermaplaning can be used for any skin type and anyone with:

  • acne scars
  • dull skin
  • dry skin
  • sun-damaged skin
  • fine wrinkles
What results can clients expect after a dermaplaning treatment?

Dermaplaning is so popular because it is a relatively quick and straightforward treatment that can produce beautiful results. Here are some of the benefits that dermaplaning can result in:

  • Softer and more radiant skin
  • Better penetration of skincare products
  • Reduction in the appearance of spots and acne
  • Smoother makeup application
  • Improving cell turnover in the skin

The extent of these results can vary from client to client and can depend on the existing skin condition. Nevertheless, most of the results should be immediate, painless and require no recovery time – so clients can enjoy their glowing skin straight from the clinic!

Can all skin types try Dermaplaning?

While most clients are safe to undergo a dermaplaning treatment, there are some skin conditions that should avoid it. While dermaplaning can benefit acne-prone skin, clients with active and cystic acne, or very oily skin, rosacea or extreme sensitivity and hyperpigmentation should be advised against it.

When should a Dermaplaning treatment be carried out?

The best time to offer clients a dermaplaning treatment is before a facial or other skincare treatment. This is because the skin is perfectly primed to absorb serums, oils and moisturisers to deliver maximum benefits to the skin.

If clients do use strong chemical exfoliants, it’s best to advise them against using them for five days to a week prior to the treatment. Similarly, any other form of facial hair removal such as threading, waxing or shaving should also be stopped around two weeks before the appointment.

You should also recommend to clients that if they do experience a severe acne breakout, rash or any sort of facial wound in the days before their appointment, they should reschedule it until their skin has healed. Similarly, dermaplaning can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so if they are planning on going on holiday, advise them to book in at least 2 or 3 days before they go – tanning beds should not be used after a dermaplaning treatment and SPF 30+ should be recommended daily.
